Left to fend for himself in the harsh Mongolian winter after their widowed mother returns to the countryside, gifted student Ulzii hears about a physics competition which could be his way out of grinding poverty. But the juggle of intense study, looking after his younger siblings and trying to get them enough fuel to stay warm is a huge challenge. From sweeping snow-capped landscapes to the forests now in peril, to the crammed yurt shanty town in Ulaanbaatar, this film gives a window on contemporary Mongolian society as it grapples with climate change and rapid development.
