Wracked by guilt after covering up a murder, Mona – a wealthy northern Sudanese retired singer in a tense marriage – tries to make amends by taking the deceased’s southern Sudanese widow, Julia, and her son into her home. As the two women become closer, Mona is unable to confess her deceit and tries to help Julia and her son. But Sudan is in the grip of civil war and the country’s turmoil finds its way into her home and forces her to face the consequences of her actions.
