Louise Wadley in conversation with director Kim Hopkins and producer Margareta Szabo for an exploration of documentary filmmaking, including preview footage from an upcoming project.
Kim Hopkins is at the forefront of British documentary filmmaking. She made her mark with the critically acclaimed documentary A Bunch of Amateurs, nominated for multiple awards and BAFTA & BIFFA shortlisted. Previous work includes Voices of the Sea, Man in the Sand, Wanted, and Hotel Folly. Co-founder of Yorkshire-based production company Labor of Love Films, Kim’s work has screened around the world on multiple networks. She has taught documentary at NFTS and around the world and was instrumental in setting up the documentary department at Cuba’s foremast film school.
Margareta Szabo, originally from Budapest, Hungary, is the co-founder of Labor of Love Films. She is an accomplished film producer, a graduate of Pázmány Péter University and a Berlinale Talents alumna. In 2022, Creative UK’s Female Founders initiative recognised her as one of Britain’s rising female entrepreneurs. Margareta produced the multiple audience award-winning documentary A Bunch of Amateurs, Before moving to England, Margareta was an accomplished stage actress at Budapest Kamara Theatre, where she won Best Newcomer Award in 2007.
