ÀMA GLORIA
Six-year-old Cléo loves her nanny more than anyone. When Gloria returns to Cape Verde to care for her own children, Cleo must learn that love is also about letting go.
Cléo lives in a safe and near-idyllic cocoon of love from her widowed father and nanny Gloria but is devastated when Gloria must return home to Cape Verde. Gloria invites her to spend one last summer together. But there are painful lessons as Cléo discovers that the world no longer revolves around her and Gloria’s children need their mother. With delicate and authentic acting from both Louise Mauroy-Panzani as Cléo and Ilça Moreno Zego as Gloria, this film is exquisite. But it is Mauroy-Panzani’s beguiling performance as she confronts this seismic change that is this moving film’s beating heart. Bring tissues.
