Rocks (Bukky Bakray), a 15-year-old London girl with a crew of close friends and ambitions to run her own business, sees her world fall apart when her mother abandons her and younger brother Emmanuel (a scene-stealing D’angelou Osei Kissiedu). When the neighbours start to talk, Rocks finds it increasingly hard to put on a brave face and her closest friendships become stretched to breaking point. Full of warmth, honesty and authenticity and cast over a period of a year with mostly non-actors, Gavron has provided us with a fresh, exciting and diverse portrait of young women we are not used to seeing on screen.
