Lauretta Ngcobo was a rural South African storyteller turned revolutionary, political exile and feminist writer. Directed by her daughter, Kethiwe Ngcobo, this film blends archive materials with re-enactments, interviews and readings from Lauretta's books, and tells a complex family history. It follows Lauretta from her role as a courier for the then-banned Pan African Congress to raising her children in exile in the UK, discovering feminism and eventually returning to her home. The film celebrates the power of storytelling as an act of resistance, resilience, remembrance and defiance. 'Without memory, there is vacant space' – Lauretta Ngcobo.
